COLUMBIA, S.C. – November 13, 2007 – The South Carolina Department of Commerce and Barnwell County today announced that Luigi Bormioli Corp. will locate its warehouse and distribution operations in Barnwell, S.C. The company will invest approximately $3.25 million and create 20 new jobs as a result of the investment.
Marcel Trepanier, President of Luigi Bormioli Corporation believes “securing this warehouse facility will allow the company to continue to prosper and continue to support our customer base by providing improved inventory positions, on time shipping and overall service. We foresee the ability to double our business from this facility during the next 3 to 4 years.”
Luigi Bormioli will locate its operations in the Barnwell County Airport Industrial Park. The company chose South Carolina as a strategic location to meet its distribution needs. The state’s infrastructure, including the Port of Charleston, was a key factor in the company’s location decision.
“Today’s announcement is another sign that our efforts to improve the economic soil conditions are working to attract new investment throughout the state. We remain committed to continuing these efforts to keep creating jobs and opportunity for more South Carolinians,” said Gov. Mark Sanford.
“As businesses work smarter to develop operations in strategic locations, South Carolina continues to be an ideal choice. Luigi Bormioli is family-owned business with a strong international presence and focus on delivering a quality product. They are a welcomed addition to the state’s business community and we look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship in the years ahead,” said Joe Taylor, Secretary of Commerce.
Luigi Bormioli distributes high-end fragrance containers and tableware products to retailers in the U.S. and Canada.
“Luigi Bormioli's decision to locate its only warehouse and distribution facility in the United States in Barnwell County further diversifies the area’s industrial base. Luigi Bormioli is the County’s second industry with an Italian connection and joins an impressive group of nationally and internationally recognized companies that already call Barnwell County home. Barnwell County’s proximity to the Port of Charleston, its application for Foreign Trade Zone status, and the availability of a building suited for their operation were key reasons Luigi Bormioli chose this area,” said Marty Martin, Executive Director, Barnwell County Economic Development Corporation.
“We welcome Luigi Bormioli to the family of internationally recognized industry brands to choose the Southern Carolina region as their distribution or manufacturing location. We look forward to working with this highly respected European company to assist them in their distribution efforts throughout North America,” said Danny Black, President of SouthernCarolina Alliance.
Named for its founder, Luigi Bormioli was founded in Parma, Italy in 1946 and established its U.S. subsidiary in 1986. The company remains a family-run operation. Originally focused on the design of fragrance bottles, the company later expanded its operations to include objects for the table.
